Along side our authentic brazilian jiu jitsu curriculum, we also offer strength and conditioning classes! Our classes differ from other gyms, as we always have instructor led H.I.I.T. classes or High Intensity Interval Training! What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art, whose focus is the skill of controlling a resisting opponent, in a manner which forces him to submit or "tap". Since the control of an opponent is easier on the ground, versus in a standing position, the techniques learned in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) are focused on the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for dominant control positions, from where the opponent can be submitted.
WHAT IS GI AND NO-GI?
Traditionally, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is practiced in a Gi or Kimono. This places a great amount of burden on the student, greatly restricting the ability to move freely and forces one to rely heavily on proper technique.
No-Gi Jiu-Jitsu is a dynamic self-defense system that focuses on applying the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, without the traditional uniform or "Gi". Students who have previous wrestling experience find No Gi Jiu-Jitsu to be an easy transition into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Training in the Gi forces a strong foundation and understanding of the techniques, leverages, and positions of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, increasing ones understanding of control. Furthermore, No-Gi training add's a dimension of difficulty, differing from that of Gi training, as one can not "grip or hold" the uniform. No-Gi training is key for success in Mixed Martial Arts.
